Our History

For over 100 years, our family has been helping families to honor their loved ones in a time of need. We have and always will be there every step of the way, from the initial call to as long as needed after the services are over. When the opportunity came to purchase a location in South Florida, we decided to bring the same call to service that we have been honored to offer to families during their most vulnerable and difficult times of their life. We decided to purchase the Kalis Funeral Home, that was established in 1959 in Wilton Manors, by the Kalis Family. We still operate at the original location, 2505 N. Dixie Highway, Wilton Manors. Since we are a family owned business we open our door to every family and invite anyone to stop by and meet us or let us answer any questions you may have.

  • New York, circa 1906

Bernard Leo McIntee, Sr. “Big Chief”; Bernie’s grandfather, founded the first McIntee funeral home in Rochester, New York, circa 1906. He would essentially, become the first generation of a family of funeral directors spanning over one hundred years!

  • Founded in 1959

Kalis Funeral Home was founded in 1959, by Edward Kalis; we are still at the same location in Wilton Manors, Florida

50 years ago, Bernie’s father, B. Leo McIntee, Jr., built his fist McIntee Funeral Chapel. In the early 1980’s B. Leo, Jr., built another state of the art funeral chapel in Rochester, New York, where he served his community until retirement.

  • 2004 to present

In 2004 Bernie and Marcia, purchased Kalis Funeral Home; thus, restoring in our community, family ownership and tradition with the Kalis-McIntee Funeral & Cremation Center.

Being family owned and operated, certainly has its advantages; we are not controlled by any national chain or corporation. That allows us to provide value and service that has become uncommon in an industry that has become dominated by mergers and acquisitions.
