Rhett Roy

February 23, 1945~April 23, 2021

Rhett G. Roy, 76, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Friday April 23, 2021. Rhett was born in Baton Rouge, LA. He attended LSU where he graduated and went on to become a professor of Landscape Architecture. After moving to South Florida he started Rhett Roy Landscape Architecture, which became one of the most distinctive firms in Fort Lauderdale. Rhett designed many prestigious projects throughout his career and won numerous distinguished awards. He truly left the world a more beautiful place. Rhett had a passion for cars, old and new. When he wasn’t working on “Sally”, his 1932 Ford Coupe, you could find him at home fishing on his dock catching a good sunset. Rhett was a wonderful husband, devoted father and survived by his loving wife Kim, son Josh, daughters Amanda and Fallon (Josiah), brother-in-law John Pust, niece Alexa, nephew Johnathan and extended family in Pittsburgh and Baton Rouge. Family will receive friends at a Celebration of Life on Thursday, May 20th, 2021 from 4-7PM at the Coral Ridge Yacht Club, Fort Lauderdale.

Dave Bodker called me today to let me know about Rhett’s passing. Trudi and I are so sorry for your loss. I enjoyed working for Rhett, he was a very talented designer and Landscape Architect and was always fun to be around (good Louisiana sayings, jokes, etc.). That always made me feel like I was still back in Louisiana, even though I was 900 miles away from home working in Ft. Lauderdale. We are praying for you and your family in this time of sadness. God bless you, and your family.
