Joseph "Joe" Reid

08-06-1930  -  09-18-2017

Obituary

Mr. Joseph “Joe” F. Reid, age 87 of Pompano Beach, Florida sailed away on his last and final voyage at 12:44am on Monday, September 18, 2017.  Joe was born on August 6, 1930 in Dumbarton, Scotland.  He apprenticed as a boat carpenter at the
Glasgow shipyards on the River Clyde and then joined the British Merchant Marine.  During his travels, Joe decided his future should be in the US.  Joe met his wife of 52 years, Elizabeth “Betty” Lynch Reid, at a dance on Long Island.  Betty was also from Scotland.  They married and lived in Connecticut with their daughter, Angela, moving to Florida in 1972. After Betty’s passing, Joe would spend time doing one of the things he loved to do, dancing which is where Joe met his special companion, Miriam Oswald.  Joe was a highly regarded boat builder and master carpenter being a true craftsman.  He retired from Bradford Marine where he was the foreman of the carpentry shop.  Joe loved his work and all things concerning boats.  His daily commute to Bradford was by a wooden boat he built.  Last year, Joe and Angela traveled to Scotland to visit his homeland.  While in Scotland, they were able to spend time with Joe’s cousin Hilda Douglas and her family.  He enjoyed holidays at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, David Berman, and spending time with his grand dog, Murphy, who he would take for a “duke” in the pool. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 22, 2017 from 2:00-3:00pm at Kalis-McIntee Funeral and Cremations, 2505 N. Dixie Highway, Wilton Manors, Florida 33305.  Following the visitation a formal service will take place in the Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Leslie A. Rutland-Tipton, presiding. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.KalisMcIntee.com
