Jean was born in Philadelphia, married at 18, and was a working mom until she retired and moved to Venice, Florida. She was famous for her holiday dinners, especially her lasagna and perogies. She made the prettiest salads and loved a full house for dinner. Her heart and home were always open. She was loving, kindhearted, gentle, supportive, and fun. She gave the best advice. Jean’s life revolved around her children, extended family, and friends. Everyone called her Mom or Grandmom. During the last 30 years, Jean relocated to California and New Jersey, several times, to care for her children or their spouses in times of crisis. She joyfully moved to Fort Lauderdale to help raise her only grandchild, the light and love of her life. Jean is preceded in death by her parents, Rose and Peter; siblings Sam, John, Anne, Mary, Francis, Julie, and Sophie; and sons-in-law Alfred Carter and Jeffrey Belton. She is survived by her children, Jenny Carter, Andrew (AnnaMarie), and Deborah (fiancé, Jonathan Tack); grandson, Dominic; honorary son, Robert Horton; sisters-in-law, Jean Cardo and Madeline Howizak; and many nieces and nephews. A service will be held on March 20, 2017, at 11:00 a.m., at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 2511 N. Ocean Boulevard, Fort Lauderdale. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jean’s name can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
