Edward John Martin

 -  10-26-2017

Obituary

Edward John Martin,  52 a resident of Fort Lauderdale FL, formerly of Taunton MA died on Thursday morning with his loving husband by his side.  He was the son of the late Alfred L. Martin and Margaret A. Martin. Ed had bravely battled cancer for over 13 years.  He was a retired credit manager for various companies during his career.

Ed had a passion for the people and things he loved.  He was quick to say I love you to the people in his life that meant so much to him. His love of Provincetown MA, Broadway music, Barbra Streisand, and the playwright Tennessee Williams was legendary among his family and friends.  His style, charm and sense of humor always made people feel welcomed and left them with a smile.  He will be sadly missed; the sense of emptiness left by his departure from this world will never be filled.

Besides his husband, William F. O’Rourke, he leaves behind his Aunt Ambrosina Martin, whom he adored.  He also leaves behind his siblings: Patricia Martin, Kathleen  Morrison (Richard), Susan Martin Azul, and Paul Martin (Dulce), his nephews Neil MM Morrison (Paula), Eric Morrison (Emily Treano), Kyle Morrison, Brady Martin and Christian Martin, his great nephew Cole Morrison, and great nieces Avery and Gianna Morrison, and many friends.

Services will be private, with a celebration of Ed’s life for family and friends  to be held at a future date in Massachusetts.

My sincere sympathy goes out to Ed's family. I had the pleasure of working with Ed at AliMed
and he was always the most helpful, kind person to everyone. I missed our chats and his sense of humor when he moved to Florida, but was so happy that he was following his dreams. Rest in peace my friend.

Bill, I want to express my sincere gratitude for all the care, love and support you provided for my brother during this trying, horrific illness. It is comforting to know that he had you as a refuge with all that he was going through. His bravery driving to and from work through snow storms while going to chemo and radiation & suffering is exemplar
in courageous strength. And his humorous, loving reputation among family and friends speaks for itself.

Bill, I am truly sorry for the loss of your dear husband. Although I had never met Ed, I only needed to see pictures posted to social media of the two of you, and it was very easy to tell that this man was special. Every picture of him or of the both of you showed a happy couple, a happy fun-loving couple, and a couple whose love would be ever-lasting. Know that your family and friends are always there with a shoulder to lean on and an ear to listen.
May you find comfort in knowing that he will always be with you. And sharing stories (the serious ones, the funny ones and even the silly ones) Ed, will ease a little of the pain for you and your families.
Rest in Peace Ed

Dear Ed,
with shock and disbelief we read about your tragic loss. Not really unexpected but finally you are free, without pains, without sickness. This to know helps a little bit to accept this very sad fact.
We all are very grateful that we met you and Bill for a short time a year ago. Ed, you was such a wonderful, warm-hearted person, very concerned about the welfare of other people. You will be thoroughly missed.
Rest in peace, Ed!

To Bill and Eds family:
Words are so inadequate at this time, but we wanted to let you know that our thoughts go out to you.
From the bottom of our hearts, we wish you strength in this difficult time.
God bless you!

I am so sorry to hear this! I remember the first day I met Ed and he was so anxious to exchange numbers and get together since we were both fairly new to Florida . We shared our first Holiday here together and he was always so gracious. Though we lost contact the past year and a half, clearly I know why now. We had much in common and he will be so missed.

I didn’t know Ed particularly well, but I knew him for about 19 years. One thing that will always stand out in my mind was how warm, friendly, caring and sincere Ed was. He always made me feel like I was an old friend whom he always was glad to see. Ed was a gentle soul. I never heard him complain or act bitter. Ed was one of the few people in this world who always showed love, and compassion to everyone
He was an angel among us.

To my dear friend, Bill and to Ed's beloved family and friends, please accept my heart felt condolences. I only had the pleasure of meeting Ed in person once, but that was all it took to realize how truly special he was. One thing that struck me was how comfortable I felt within moments of meeting someone who was a stranger to me before that. It also didn't take long to recognize what a special bond he and Bill had, which warmed my heart from a distance, through phone calls to Facebook posts. As sad as I am today for Ed's passing and the related loss of all those who loved him, I am thankful to know of how he added such joy to your world while he was a part of it.
